Introduction

Early Childhood Programs function at an optimal level when early childhood educators are recognized for the skills and expertise they bring to the early learning environment. Qualified educators have a sound understanding of early child development, pedagogical practice, and a commitment to working closely with families. They support young parents, families who are new to Canada, and families with complex needs. These educators deserve fair compensation, decent benefits, working conditions that support their professional learning, leadership opportunities and career advancement. In order to stabilize and strengthen the ECE workforce, the Atkison Centre is committed to a plan of action that recognizes the rights of educators and works collaboratively with other organizations to increase public recognition to support educators committed to family engagement and to improved child outcomes. Early childhood educators are at the heart of quality early learning experiences.
