When the Pine Needles Fall: Indigenous Acts of Resistance, an evening with Katsi’tsakwas Ellen Gabriel

September 27, 2024

A celebrated human rights activist and feminist leader, Gabriel was the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) spokesperson during Canada’s siege of Kanehsatà:ke and Kahnawà:ke in the summer of 1990.

She will join us to discuss her experiences and her new book, When the Pine Needles Fall: Indigenous Acts of Resistance, in conversation with co-author Sean Carleton and distinguished scholars Jeffrey Ansloos, Jennifer Brant, Robyn Maynard, and Beverly Jacobs.

This event will reflect on Gabriel’s enduring work and the lessons of her advocacy, examining its critical implications for community engagement, educating for land defence, strengthening international solidarity, and nourishing the transformative work of Indigenous resurgence.

There will be an opportunity to purchase the book and to have it signed by the authors at the event.
