Muriel Fung Student Appreciation Award Recipients
Congratulations to Muriel Fung Student Appreciation Award Recipients!
The Muriel Fung Student Appreciation Award was established by the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Graduate Students’ Association in 2001. The award recognizes students who have made outstanding extracurricular contributions to ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½. This award was named after Muriel Fung, a former doctoral candidate in Sociology and Equity Studies (now Social Justice Education, SJE) and an ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Research Officer. Through this award, we acknowledge Muriel Fung's heartfelt commitment to fostering the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ community and her deep concern for social justice within and beyond the institution. Muriel Fung demonstrated many qualities of service, leadership, and generosity of spirit during her years with ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½.
We are happy to announce the recipients of this year's Muriel Fung Student Appreciation Award, Aliya Mustafina and Emily Dobrich.
Aliya Mustafina (she/her), LHAE
As the president of ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½'s International Students' Association, Aliya has served our diverse community, ensuring that every voice is heard and every need is met. She is also a strong advocate for student employees, advocating for fair and just working conditions. Her dedication also extends beyond ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½. She has generously devoted her time and efforts to various volunteer opportunities, particularly in areas concerning mental health and pregnancy support. Through her actions, she has made a profound impact not only within the walls of ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ but also within the broader community.
Emily Dobrich (she/her), LHAE
Throughout her journey at ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½, Emily has demonstrated a remarkable passion for service and leadership. From her contributions as an ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Student Library Advisory Committee member to her involvement in the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Wellness Post-Pandemic group, she has sought out opportunities to support her peers. Furthermore, her role as a study hub facilitator for academic success has fostered a positive culture where students can achieve their fullest potential. Today, we are proud to recognize her instrumental role in the revival of the Student on Seven Association—an initiative that promises to provide AECD students with opportunities for connection and engagement.
We would also like to thank all the nominees for this year's Muriel Fung Student Appreciation Award. We acknowledge the dedication and commitment of all the nominees. Your ongoing efforts undoubtedly contribute to the vibrancy and inclusivity of our community at ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½, and we are grateful for your continued involvement.
