Dr. Seraat Kaur Gill - Transformative Quality: Moving Forward From Massification

With the increasing massifcation of higher education and the resulting burgeoning private sector, demand-absorbing institutions usually rank at the bottom of institutional rankings in terms of quality. Drawing from my study of private higher education in India, I will discuss a framework for assessing quality considering the views of faculty who are in the front-line in defining and redefining academic quality. A six-factor transformative quality scale, which explores the dimensions of overcoming prejudices, skilfulness and emotionality, validated through three empirical studies will be presented. These results have several implications for policy makers, institutional managers and educators.
