Dr. Jakob Kost - The Swiss Vocational Education and Training (VET) System – Success Stories and Pitfalls

The Swiss dual VET system is considered the gold standard among education systems and there are many followers worldwide. Two-thirds of each birth cohort enroll in a VET program in one of around 240 occupations. In addition, a specialized college sector has developer over the past 20 years that builds specifically on this VET sector and thus bridges vocational education and general education at universities. Despite its success, the system faces major challenges, e.g., in the labor market (digitalization/automation) and the transition system (social inequality). Join Dr. Kost in this as they describe the system in a European context, present developments in the last 20 years and show (un)intended effects of educational policy.
